Beauty Uses for Olive Oil: Pro DIY Recipes
In addition to coconut oil, olive oil is one of those pantry items that can easily be incorporated into your beauty routine. It’s high in moisture and antioxidants making it great for the skin and hair.
Today we have several beauty experts sharing their favorite beauty uses for olive oil and DIY recipes.

Calendula Extract ~ Elaine, Natural E
My favorite way to use organic olive oil is to make calendula extract with it.
I buy dried organic [easyazon_link identifier=”B0044PH7ZS” locale=”US” tag=”beautyboxreview-20″]calendula petals[/easyazon_link] and place them in a glass pyrex bowl. Then I cover the petals with olive oil and put the glass bowl in a pot filled with some water in order to create a double boiler.
I turn the heat on low for about an hour to let the properties from the calendula transfer into the olive oil.
Then I strain the calendula out with a very fine strainer. The calendula infusion can be used as an ingredient in a healing salve or lip balm. It works wonders on dry, itchy skin. Some moms use calendula to help diaper rash and some elderly use it to help minor pressure sores.

Whip one egg yolk until thick. Beat in ½ teaspoon olive oil. Add ¾ cup lukewarm water. Massage into the hair and scalp. Rinse after 10 minutes.
Skin Smoother ~ Denise Del Russo, Makeup Artist www.denisedelrusso.com
One of my absolute, favorite uses is to mix olive oil with coffee grounds and use in the shower to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The caffeine in the coffee and the vitamins in the oil when applied to the skin on a regular basis will help to reduce the effects of cellulite.
Hair Elixir ~ Noelle Spinosa, www.NoelleSalon.com
Mix 1/8 cup olive with 2 drop rosemary essential oil and 1 drop lavender oil. Wash and towel dry hair, take 1 to 2 teaspoons and apply to the scalp from front, back to sides of the head. The key is to massage this oil into scalp for at least 3 minutes, shampoo (conditioner optional), dry and style as normal. The recipe promotes blood circulation to hair follicles.
For dry or lackluster hair; after 2 minutes comb the excess mix from roots to ends, leave in one minute and then shampoo.
Use this recipe once per week, and omit rosemary oil if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Olive oil contains squalene which is extremely moisturizing. Avocado contains vitamins A, E and C and is moisturizing. Honey is antibacterial and is also filled with antioxidants and is moisturizing.
Jaclyn from www.SkinPerfectClinic.com offers this tip:
While many people love using olive oil on their skin, not all skin types can tolerate it. If you are going to try any of these tips above, start by using just a little bit of olive oil. Try to space it out throughout the week instead of using it every day. Just like any skin care product, your skin needs to get used to what you are putting on it.
