Shampoo Booster

Mélanie Lavigueur, beauty blogger at petiteegoiste.com says, “my favorite use for baking soda is to mix about 1 tablespoon of it with my regular shampoo. It’s amazing to remove product buildup and I use it once every 2 weeks.”

Dip brush into ARM & HAMMER(tm) Baking Soda and scrub nails and cuticles. Make a paste of three parts ARM & HAMMER(tm) Baking Soda to one part water. Rub in a gentle, circular motion over hands and fingers to exfoliate and smooth. Rinse clean with warm water and apply polish as usual.

Banish Underarm Discoloration

Kim of Kim Laudati Skin Care and laser in Manhattan has this DIY recipe:

You need:

A few slices of Cucumber, 2 tbsp Olive Oil, 1 tbsp Baking Soda, 3 tsp Lemon Juice. Mash all ingredients to make a paste. Rub into the offending body part(s) & let sit 10-15 min. Rinse and pat dry. Repeat until color of skin is satisfactory.

This tip is a great way to naturally exfoliate away the underarm deodorant buildup that most of us don’t even realize happens with daily use!

Simple Face Scrub

1 teaspoon Baking Soda, 1 drop lavender essential oil for normal-dry skin or melaleuca (tea tree oil for oily-problematic skin). In palm of the hand add baking soda & essential oil, add water till it makes a runny paste.  Scrub GENTLY in circular motions for about 20-30 seconds, rinse well.  Recommended once per week-10days.

This is also a great spot treatment for blemishes.

I emphasize the word gently because although it is gentle,  Baking Soda is still an abrasive and most of us tend to be heavy-handed when touching our faces.  Interesting note; men tend to treat their faces more gently than women.

Beauty Bath

1 cup Epsom Salts, 2 cups Baking Soda, 3-4 Drops Lavender, lemongrass or orange essential oil.

Fill tub with water as hot as you can comfortably take it.  Get in, relax and let the water cool down. As it cools it will pull toxins from the body.  DO NOT add more warm water, when tepid, get out, rinse. Recommended 1-2 times per week.

Tooth Polish

For white teeth & healthy gums; wet toothbrush & shake on or dip in baking soda.  Add 1 drop clove essential oil. Brush well & rinse. Daily use.

Note from Angie: We love adding a drop of thieves oil to our toothpaste.
