DIY College Care Package Ideas
Whether it is leftovers from your favorite subscription box or free samples received from your Sephora and ULTA orders, many of us have product samples lying around we know we will never get to. Rather than let them go to waste, let’s put them to good use. DIY college care packages are a great place for them and an alternative to college subscription boxes. No samples? No problem! All of the below items can be picked up on Amazon or at your local pharmacy.
What To Include In A College Care Package
Microwave popcorn
Emergen-C packets – confined spaces can lead to colds
Bug repellant – beaches and bonfires at night mean bugs
Stamps
Laundry soap packets
Lip Balm
Clear nail polish – this has so many uses: keep cheap jewelry from tarnishing, stop threads from unraveling, secure a loose button
Body lotion
Nail file
Facial wash
Toothbrush and toothpaste – I don’t know about your dentist office, but ours gives us a new toothbrush and mini toothpaste at every checkup. We use electric so I stockpile these for homeless shelters, Good Samaritan bags and more.
Deodorant cream
Tampons, pads and pantyliners – every woman needs an emergency stash of feminine hygiene products
Gum
Tea or coffee packets
Gift cards
Post-It Notes
The box above was obviously created with a girl in mind. For the guys, simply switch out the feminine hygiene products for razors, aftershave, etc.
A lot of these things are essentials that are easily overlooked. And they aren’t meant to last the entire school year, but will sure make it through until an emergency trip to the corner store. (Don’t tell me you never forgot to buy feminine products as a college student buying your own groceries and supplies for the first time.)
Another variation on the care package is the blessings bag. In addition to essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste and a snack, throw in handwarmers or a pair of gloves for the homeless in your community during cold weather months.
