Why Do My Subscription Boxes Suck?

Why Do My Subscription Boxes Suck?

Every once in awhile I hear a reader say, “Everyone else is getting cool stuff, but my subscription boxes have been stinking lately.” I hear ya! It happens from time to time. Sometimes things are going along great and out of the blue the samples arriving seem irrelevant. Here are a few tips to ensure you are getting the best subscription box collaborations for your profile.

Why Do My Subscription Boxes Suck

Is Your Profile Complete?

Even if you filled out your profile to the nth degree upon subscribing, maybe there are new questions available. Birchbox recently added more questions to their men’s subscription that seemed to have my husband’s shipments a little “off” for a few months. Once I filled out the new questions, he was right back on track.

Does Your Profile Need Updated?

Our body’s and preferences change over time. Maybe when you signed up, you told them you hate lipstick. Now that everyone else is receiving some super cool colors you really want some. Maybe those categories you were interested at the onset you have had enough of. Perhaps you filled out your subscription with cosmetics in mind, but now your Caboodle is full and you need skin and hair care items. In this case it may not be the company’s fault. They are just doing what you told them. No need to be embarrassed (or confess), just go update your profile. ;)

Maybe the Boxes Really Do Suck

If every subscriber’s shipment is stinking, it may just be time to go. Plain and simple. Subscriptions come and go, and sometimes they don’t make an exit soon enough. Know when it is time to walk away.

And next month will be great. I know it!

That happens too. With some companies you may be able to pick up a leftover box. Otherwise you will need to resub or hold off until you are confident things are turning around.

Opt for “You Choose” Boxes

There are a few boxes out there like Beauty Army and Julep that will show you the selections upfront and you can then choose your shipment or skip. As long as you are good at opening your emails and making those decisions in a timely manner, these are usually safe bets.

Have you received a stinky subscription? How did you turn things around?
