What Do I Do With Unwanted Samples? eDivv Interview

As a subscription box regular you will occasionally get samples you won’t use. Maybe it’s the wrong shade. Perhaps it’s a product preference issue. Regardless, you don’t want these products going to waste entirely. So, where do you turn?

I was recently introduced to eDivv, a site that allows members to swap samples. I reached out the eDivv team for an interview and to provide us with the sample swapping skinny.

Please tell us a bit about eDivv.com.

eDivv is the first online trading platform for trading beauty products.  Basically it is bartering on the internet.  Similar to Ebay, all you had to do is take a picture of your item, upload it and fill out the details about the product (brand, product,size,color, condition etc.).  Once you see something you want, you send out a “divvy” request which is eDivv’s way of saying trade.  The other person will get an email and notification that they have a “divvy” request and can either accept, counter or decline. If accepted, both parties just pay for shipping.  eDivv connects beauty lovers from all over the country and brings them together to trade.

What was the motivation behind starting your beauty product swap service?

I started eDivv because I saw women who received boxes every month from one of the beauty subscription box services were getting products that they didn’t want or seeing people receive products that they did want.  Many of the subscription box companies have you fill out a short survey and send out many variations of the boxes so you never know what you will get.  Most brands also don’t sell samples so it is often hard to get your hands on them before purchasing the full size of the product.

Women also often receive gifts with purchase when buying beauty products or get samples at Macy’s and Sephora.  These end up going to waste if they are not in your shade or not your color.

Women have been trading though blogs and forums but I wanted a community where everyone could come to trade on a fun, easy to use platform.  Now, women can feel safe trading.

What kind of products can be swapped?

Any beauty products (samples or full sized) can be traded. We also have a section for accessories and jewelry.

What protections are in place for users?

10 days after a successful divvy both users will get an email allowing them to rate their divvy partner.  It is here where they have the chance to give a 1 – 4 start rating and write feedback about the trade.  If there was ever a case when someone is abusing the site, we have the ability to block them from using it.

Are there any costs associated with using eDivv?

eDivv is totally free to use! The only cost you pay for is shipping the product.  Users can also trade multiple products for multiple products to save on shipping costs.
