Top 5 Online Designer Consignment Stores

Here’s a shocker: I do a lot of shopping online – that includes clothes and accessories. And when I’m shopping online I expect to get the best price possible. This is why I love a good online designer consignment store!
Great savings are to be had, especially on luxury brands, if you know where to look. Most new or like-new items can be priced up to 70% off. There are a few websites that specialize in previously-owned designer women’s fashion. If you are shopping the right stores, you can get a great deal with little risk. Here are a few of my favorites. The sites below were chosen based on prices, brand availability and having a return policy.

The RealReal – This site carries luxury brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Oscar de la Renta, etc. Their items are the cream of the crop and all are authenticated before being listed. Much of the gently used items here are about 50% off retail. New items are added daily. For $5 per month you can sign up as a First Look Member to receive advance notice of sales and invitation-only specials.
Tradesy – I have bought and sold here several times. I think the items are very reasonably priced (pick yourself up a new Coach bag for under $100!). They carry a little of everything at Tradesy from Forever 21 to luxury brands like Coach and Burberry. They also have a great return policy. This is a great place to unload those unwanted subscription box accessories! Sign up with my referral link to receive $25 in store credit.
Thredup – No longer just for kids, this site now offers women’s and juniors items as well. Unlike a lot of other sites, all clothes are shipped to ThredUp as opposed to the Seller shipping directly to the Buyer. This ensures you are receiving an unbiased description and price tag. They also offer a 30-day return policy.
Shop Hers – Most items are available 50-60% below retail here. All items are inspected by the site prior to being sold. If you are unsatisfied with an item or it doesn’t fit, you can resell it or return it within 14 days.
Poshmark – This site is a little different in that they offer much more of a community aspect. You can follow closets, attend virtual shopping parties and chat with fellow shoppers via item comments. There is really no brand “minimum” on Poshmark. They have everything from no name items to Michael Kors (unauthenticated). Watch your prices here. I’ve seen (obviously) used items listed for more than what I could buy them new on Amazon or Zappos. The refund window is only three days from receipt here, but they do offer cash refunds.
Words of Wisdom
Read the description and examine the photos thoroughly for flaws. If you have questions, ask! Almost every site allows you to ask the seller or the site questions about an item.
This is not the time to try new brands. Every company seems to have their own sizing system these days. This can lead to a lot of time, headache and possibly expense if you are returning items frequently.
Speaking of returns, read the fine print before doing business on any online consignment shop.
