Subscription Boxes to Try in 2014 & a Year in Review

I have several posts scheduled over the next few weeks to bring us into the New Year as our best selves with the best products. Now that the holiday shopping season is coming to a close, it is time to start thinking about gifts I would like to give myself as opposed to those subs we thought were good for others. Here are a few on my short list. I would love for you to share yours in the comments.

Subscription Boxes 2014

Hazel Lane – This is a new subscription that focuses on locally-sourced products from one chosen city each month. I was lucky enough to win the upcoming San Francisco box and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival (and hoping it is a good one). One thing I love about this new sub is the options.

  • The original City Explorer Subscription is $39.99 per month and available in Lady or Gentlemen varieties.
  • The Mini City Explorer is $19.99 (no male/female option).
  • Little Explorer is for kids and is $49.99 per month.
  • The City Explorer Deluxe is $59.99 per month
  • There are also limited edition boxes available on a regular basis.

Love with Food – With the exception of Bestowed, we don’t currently received much in the “foodie” subscription category. This little guy is inexpensive and has great reviews. I definitely need to try it.

Quarterly – We have had a Quarterly subscription ordered (one of the new NFL subs) and are waiting for it to ship. I thought the first box was coming in December, but my account now says it ships in two months. Bummer, but at least we haven’t been charged yet. There are several curators I would like to try out here if things go well with my husband’s sub.

Pig of the Month Club – So I must be hungry this morning…or it could simply be that I freakin’ love BBQ! I need in on this sub club. Every month they offer a box (or two) of their favorite pork products at a 50% discount. I’m ordering at least one of these in 2014.

Boxes We Loved in 2013

There are a few of our favorites we won’t be getting rid of anytime soon. Many of these have been going strong for years, but a few were new in 2013 and hit it out of the ballpark.

Wantable Intimates – December was the third month of the new Intimates subscription from Wantable. I did have a little hiccup this month but the company was quick to resolve my complaint. I won’t be leaving soon.

Bespoke Post – My husband has really enjoyed this sub. You always have a few boxes to choose from each month or you can skip if nothing matches your interests. The products are always high quality and a great value.

Birchbox – We love both the men’s and women’s Birchboxes. These are a great value. I only hope we see a deluxe version for the ladies made available in 2014 that will be more in line with what the men receive each month.

Pijon Box – This is a new box that has really impressed us. Though targeting college students we have found all of the products relevant to our lifestyle as well. And it is a great variety of items ranging from snacks to personal care and beyond.

Bestowed – This company sends us review boxes from time to time and they are always a hit. Healthy snacking never tasted so good.

Julep – I have been a big fan of Julep’s expansion to include makeup and beauty product lines. It breaks up the nail color monotony when needed. And you can always skip a month anytime. Get your first Maven box free with code FREEBOX.

Things I Learned in 2013

As much as I wanted to, I was not a fan of the DIY boxes that hit the subscription scene like a storm this year. No fault of the boxes – well, there was one fail in my book – I’m just not crafty nor do I have any patience. I cook. I don’t craft.

What do you have going on over there? Anything I should check out? What will you be subscribing to in 2014?
