Should I Sign Up for Birchbox?
The beauty box subscription service Birchbox has been around since 2010. In 2012, the company expanded its monthly shipment options to include men’s products and also acquired Paris-based JolieBox. While this has been a popular option in recent years, I bet you want to know if it is currently worth the $10 per month.
What is in a Birchbox?
The company website states that you will receive “generous size” samples from up-and-coming and well known beauty and lifestyle brands. Recent customers have stated they can usually expect about five samples per month from a variety of categories; cosmetics, skin, hair and body care. Box selections are tailored to the information given in a subscriber’s Profile, therefore items may vary from customer to customer.
What is the Signup Process Like?
The initial signup is as easy as giving your email to Birchbox. No personal or billing information is requested at the time. You will then be put on the waitlist and notified when a spot opens up. At that time, you will need to provide payment information and answer the profile questions needed to personalize your shipments.
How Long is the Birchbox Waitlist?
The website states the current waitlist is approximately 4 weeks for women and 1 week for the Birchbox for Men. They were recently telling those inquiring on their Facebook Page that the wait was now about 5 weeks. My wait was about 7 weeks for the Birchbox invite and just two or three weeks for Birchbox Men.
What Do the Birchbox Reviews Say?
Reviews have been all over the place. A common complaint is that the size and variety of items included in the monthly beauty box shipments has declined over the past few months, while others are continually ecstatic with their boxes. I have received Birchbox off and on since their inception (I go travel out of the country frequently so I cancel when I’m gone) and I love the boxes. I never know what I’m going to receive, but inevitably, I enjoy the samples. I’ve tried other boxes and the quality of the samples in Birchbox are much better. Plus, the actual boxes are great for reusing. I look forward to seeing what you think–I had no idea there was that long of a wait!
