Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Box Review: Paleo Subscription Box
We have been attempting a clean diet for several months now. While we aren’t crazy strict about it, we have cut out the artificial ingredients and carbs and cook from the ground up all but one day per week.
Finding a good healthy, limited ingredient subscription box has been hard! When I saw Melissa Joulwan, author of Well Fed and Well Fed 2, was coming to Quarterly, I signed right up. This weekend the first box, #EAT01, arrived.

We have gotten Quarterly boxes in this past. This one was different in that it arrived by UPS. I was assuming hoping it was because it would include some yummy food. I couldn’t wait to tear open the box!
There was a very friendly note from Melissa on top detailing the products and why she included them. And, I see snacks…

Let’s start with those snacks. Primal Pacs are great. These little snack bags include grass fed beef jerky, dried fruit and nuts. Look at those huge Macadamia nuts. Yum! I wish there was more than one bag. I don’t know how my husband and I are possibly going to share.

Next up is Nikki’s Coconut Butter in Macadamia Nut Cookie. O. M. G. This stuff is dangerously delicious. Use it just as you would peanut butter (on toast, on fruit, etc.) It’s also available in flavors like honey pecan pie, vanilla cake batter… I need to hide it. My husband is a “butter” addict. This will be gone by morning if I don’t.
Next we have ghee. I have to admit this was new to me. I haven’t tried cooking with ghee yet. But, I’m really excited about this find! I haven’t cooked with butter or margarine in probably six months. Coconut oil can be a little overwhelming in some recipes. Ghee is the cream of the butter crop. Milk is taken from grass-fed cows. The butter is simmered down to remove allergans and you are left with delicious butter oil. Use it for sauteing, on toast, etc.
We have a really fancy knife in the box as well. It’s very easy to work with – not too big, not too small. And super sharp! The straight edge makes it great for slicing cheese.
Pacific Organic Bone Broth is a sipping broth. It’s made with chicken broth, cider vinegar, rosemary extract and onion. Yummy.
Wild Planet White Anchovies… Ah. Am I brave enough? I may save these for a special occasion Caesar salad or pizza.
I am so happy with this box. Not a single thing in here was something I have tried and I will use every last drop of it all. I estimate the value to be on par with what we paid ($50). I’m keeping this one! The next box ships in November. Sign up here.
