Mantry Review

Gilt City has had several subscription box offers available this week. As I love food and I love cooking, Mantry has been on my radar for quite some time. It’s a little pricey however ($75 + $10 shipping per month). When I saw it deeply discounted on Gilt City, I jumped at the chance.

Mantry Review

This box shipped quick! I ordered it Monday and it arrived on Thursday. Come to find out, that’s probably because this was the June box. For some reason I’m always a little disappointed when the great discounts are more to unload leftovers than to really “wow” a newcomer into becoming a subscriber. But maybe that’s just me.

Mantry ships UPS SmartPost. I expected it to be transferred to my post office but as UPS was in the area yesterday they went ahead and delivered it themselves. Inside the shipping box I found this cool wooden crate. It’s more of a show piece than functional. The bottom came off them I tried lifting it out of the box. No worries. With a few wood staples it will be ready for some nifty project.

Everything was wrapped up and packaged well. Inside I found the following:

Mantry Salty Dog

Bar Harbor Clam Chowder – Let’s start off this box saying I’m not a big seafood lover – at all. This was a box for the husband. And he loves his clam chowder!

Island Trollers Wild Pacific Jalapeno Albacore – Now this one I may have to keep for some experimentation. Spicy tuna melt, anyone?

Halfpops Butter & Sea Salt Halfpops – Not a fan of half-popped popcorn. This one went into hubby’s snack box.

Coop’s Micro Creamery Hot Fudge – Chocolate? Yes, please. This is a really cute jar. And this microwavable hot fudge is delicious! It’s also GMO- and gluten-free. I can think of a million things to dip in this and pour it over.

White Whale Cocktails The Filthy Liar – This is a cocktail mixer and we don’t drink. It’s made with pear juice and sounds really good. I’ll have to do some digging into non-alcoholic options.

Liddabit Sweet Sea Salt Caramels – I love the name of this company. I also love salted caramels. Yummy!

The total box value was around $45. I paid $30 for the Gilt City voucher (reg. $40 but as a new Gilt City customer a discount was automatically applied at checkout). I then paid $10 for shipping at Mantry for a total of $40. I’m happy with the value but I sure wouldn’t have been had I paid full price. I don’t think this one will become a regular subscription if this is the expected value. (Keep the crate and include more product.)

Have you tried Mantry? How was your experience?
