Julep My Maven Customization: Trial by Fire
I sat down yesterday afternoon to pick my June Maven box and try out the new customization feature. It has been several months since I opted for a Julep box because I do tend to pass along at least one product from every box I receive. So, I’ve been a chronic skipper. I, for one, was therefore very excited about the new option to customize your monthly products. Yesterday I did it for the first time. Here’s what I learned.
June Core Classics
For starters, I will say that I love Julep has expanded their product line and Maven boxes. While there are still four polish-based boxes to choose from each month (Boho Glam, Bombshell, It Girl and Classic with a Twist), there are now two more diverse boxes; Modern Beauty which focuses on Julep’s new beauty products and Core Classics which always has a few of the best sellers for restocking. I’ve opted for the Core Classics more than once. If you are crazy for Julep you can also upgrade to Maven Luxe which will get you $60 in product each month, compared to $40 with the regular boxes, for $39.99 per month.
I originally signed up as a Modern Beauty Maven so below is what was originally in my box this month. You are always free to try a new box or, if you upgrade to My Maven, choose what you get. (You still have to choose a “starter” from the above six/seven then start swapping.)

About Swapping
You do not get to pick and choose from all the available products. When you Swap Out one of the three products from your starting selection you will be given a number of products to Swap In from the same price category. Still a lot of selection here! Don’t be deterred.
About Add-Ons
I had enough Jules for a free box (still 2,000 Jules regardless of your plan), so I decided to pick a few add-ons. I did need that new top coat, ya know? Most of the polishes were $6.99 or 950 Jules. Most of the beauty products and polish sets were $19.99 or 2,000 Jules. (You earn 1,000 Jules for every friend you refer and 300 Jules on the old plan/350 on the custom for every month you order a Maven box.
About Upgrades
Upgrades are still here! Get all of the polishes for $20 extra (nine this month). Get all of the featured products for your base Maven box price plus $50 (this month that includes the nine polishes, the June featured polish Katerina and the three Oxygen Treatment products).
About Skipping
I have had my Maven subscription for over a year. At that time you could skip at will without any restrictions. That has since changed. New Mavens joining after December 2013 must “earn” skips. You get one every six months as a subscriber. With this new My Maven option, who needs to skip?

Final Thoughts
I am pleased as punch with the My Maven option. I know for a fact I will be getting more for my money under the choose-your-products upgrade as I won’t be passing so many – hopefully any – products along that I don’t like. For an extra $5, I’ll take it!
