3 Surprising Beauty Uses for Coffee Grounds
We hear more and more reports these days of the benefits of coffee. In moderation, it actually has a few health advantages. Because it is loaded with antioxidants – and caffeine – it can also be great for the skin. Here are three surprising beauty uses for coffee grounds and how you can start incorporating them as soon as you finish brewing that next pot of joe.
Body Scrub
Mix coffee grounds with honey for an all-natural face and body scrub. I find this a little less harsh than salt or sugar scrubs. And the caffeine in the grounds can supposedly plump up the skin and make cellulite less noticeable.
For a more moisturizing scrub, mix ½ cup of used coffee grounds with a couple tablespoons of olive or coconut oil. Use in the shower for a nice exfoliating moisturizer. You can also add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil like tea tree, lavender or elemi.
You will want to cover the drain with to avoid clogging up the drain. Alternatively you can scrub before getting into the shower by laying down newspapers on your bathroom floor. (Oh, the lengths we will go to for beautiful skin.)
Get Your Natural Glow On
Mix coffee grounds with a little yogurt and use as a mask to help clear up acne. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Color Booster
Mix one or two tablespoons with your favorite conditioner. Let sit on the hair for about five minutes for a little more tint between colorings.
Coffee grounds will also help remove any buildup and give your scalp a deep cleanse. Bonus! Just don’t try to use on blonde hair unless you are going for the dirty-blonde look.
And these are just things you can do beauty-wise with coffee grounds. Don’t forget it also makes for a great garden fertilizer, furniture stain to cover up scratches and odor eliminator. If you drink a few cups a day like I do, you have plenty of grounds to go around.
