Beauty Benefits Of Coconut Oil
Aside from granola and macaroons coconut oil has some amazing beauty benefits. Whether it’s for your hair and skin, speeding up metabolism, boosting your immunity or increasing energy- one jar can be used for a hundred different ways. In saying that, I’m new to this whole coconut oil discovery. Of course I’ve always been into beauty products but somehow missed the memo on this little gem. After reading about how a tablespoon of coconut oil can replace coffee as a source of energy I was completely intrigued. Apparently fat is the real source of energy (I could swear it’s coffee lol) and since coconut oil is a good fat it is easily converted to energy. Since this is a beauty blog I decided to share some of the best beauty and health benefits!
My most awesome discovery of coconut oil is that it aids in weight loss. It boosts your mood and helps the brain function better. Because it is full of nutrients and minerals it helps reduce cravings and builds muscle. It is one oil that doesn’t contain saturated fat and won’t make you gain weight. So substituting butter for coconut oil is a great healthy alternative. Coconut oil also speeds up your metabolism if you have a couple tablespoons of coconut oil everyday.
Have you heard of oil pulling? Oil pulling is an old school remedy that uses natural substances to clean teeth and gums. It also naturally whitens teeth and removes harmful bacteria. So the basic idea is you swish the coconut oil around in your mouth for about 20 minutes everyday and it removes toxins by cutting through the plaque. The concept is that the oil binds with the bacteria from your mouth and then you can discard. Steps for oil pulling as follows: put 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil into the mouth and you can pour a few drops an essential oil (safe to use in mouth) into the mix then switch for 20 minutes. That is long enough to get through the plaque look for the oil to get thicker and it should be creamy when you spit it out. Use the trash not in the sink and then rinse with water and brush!
Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that is great for skincare and haircare. Use it after sunburn for relief, make a sugar scrub or salt scrub, it can be used to help get rid of cellulite, helps soothe eczema or dry skin, use as a natural chap stick, a leave in conditioner, makeup remover, apply as a frizz remover by running through hair, natural after shave, reduce mosquito bite itches, a natural deodorant or use for cracked heals and feet. I have been using it instead of lotion and conditioner and am completely obsessed.
Use it to eat for added energy in smoothies, as an addition to coffee creamer, use in energy snacks, blend into hot tea to help speed recovery from cold or flu, replace vegetable oils with coconut oil for cooking or add to your granola.
