I have always been a makeup fanatic but not necessarily a skin care fanatic. Like sleeping in my makeup and maybe washing it off before I put it back on. Yea…not the best decision. I definitely was not wearing sunscreen let alone moisturizer. What changed? I started getting older and finally discovered the better my skin looked the better my makeup looked. The number one question I always get is what products do you use on your face? I will never claim to be the guru of skin care products (maybe of mascaras and champagne lol) but I have mastered the art of finding the perfect combination for me. Use your resources, whether it’s asking friends, go to stores and sample products and always ask questions or go online read reviews, and most important educate yourself. The reality is new things come out all the time and it’s important to always know what’s going on in the market and to be open to changing up beauty routines. I’m just going to focus on my morning skincare routine in Part 1 and will follow up with my nighttime routine.
The first thing I highly recommend is a Clairsonic. It’s great for a deep clean and your skin feels so smooth. It evens the texture of your skin and really gives your skin a glow. This is what I use to prep my skin before I apply anything else. I would recommend only using this once a day either in the morning or the evening because it could be abrasive if using any retinols. Use a mild cleanser and the Clairsonic will do the rest. I have been dabbling in Beauty Balms lately and with those you do not need a Clairsonic obviously but I will save the Cleansers vs. Beauty Balms for a separate post.
After my skin is clean I then apply a serum or oil because the rule of thumb is to apply thinest to thickest with your skin care products. This step is to help reduce the look of fine lines and give my complexion a clearer look. The two currently in rotation are Josie Maran Argan Oil and Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Serum. They are both very different products and I love both for different reasons. The Argan Oil is just great for that dewy glow and helps with complexion. The Repair Serum is a milky concentrate and is great for anti-aging and creates a smooth texture.
An additional product I’ve been using as of recent is Kiehl’s Precision Lifting & Pore-Tightening Concentrate. It is great for keeping skin’s elasticity quality and tightening the appearance of pores. It is a super thin liquid and goes on very smooth.
Investing in something a little more expensive that has support from dermatologists is never a bad idea if you have the money (it’s money well spent!!). CE Ferulic is an anti-aging serum made by SkinCeuticals. It is a fabulous product that helps even out skin tone and reduce fine lines. It’s got a cult following and most people that use it (including myself) are completely hooked.
Next up choose a really great moisturizer with SPF. As long as it isn’t chalky and goes on smooth I’m not super picky. The two that I have currently been using depending on my makeup for the day are Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 and Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue SPF 30. The Argan Moisturizer has a great silky texture and goes on smooth. The fact that it has a 47 SPF is kind of awesome and you wouldn’t even know it with it’s dewy finish. I bought this with the sample trio of the oil, cleanser and moisturizer they sell in Sephora. The Bare Minerals is bordering on BB Cream and can double as a moisturizer obviously. I absolutely love it and use it as a casual base when I don’t want to wear full foundation but need more coverage than a moisturizer. It gives sheer beautiful coverage but gives your skin a beautiful dewy and radiant finish.
Juice Beauty has a Moisturizer with 30 SPF that I love and have used for a very long time. This is an awesome product and I love it for a couple reasons: it’s organic and oil-free. It goes on a little thick and smells like lemongrass (sometimes it can tend to be a little much) not a deal breaker for me because I love how great my skin looks when I have it on.
