This is a new series I plan to share once a month. Being a makeup junkie and freelance makeup artist I have owned and used a lot of makeup through the years. We all have our ‘favorite’ items we use in our beauty routines, some of us brand loyal and some using the latest and greatest. I fall somewhere in the middle because I have my tried and true that I always go back to but will NEVER turn down the chance to pick up next big thing. Mascaras are one of those items that I am super picky about and I literally have no eyelashes without it so it has to be on point! Here are my top 5 that I have developed an obsession for over the years.
Cover Girl Professional Remarkable Waterproof Mascara in Very Black is my all time favorite, always have some on hand, have used for years mascara that I for real couldn’t live without. The bonus is that at about $5 it is inexpensive and you can replace often.
Pros: My reasons for loving this mascara are simply due to the fact that it stays on all day but it is easy to remove without a fight. It goes on smooth and lengthens my lashes so the look is long and full. It is a great product and I highly recommend and the price can’t be beat.
Cons: It does have to be replaced every month or two. I notice it gets gunky and dried out quicker than I would like but for the price I can get over it.
Two Faced Better Than False Lashes Mascara is one those mascaras I can’t get enough of without a doubt. With it’s supercharged Prime & Seal Mascara that dries quickly and a duo-fiber spiral brush to capture every last lash with advanced sculpting nylon fibers for an extreme length it has a way of converting even the most pickiest of makeup lovers.
Pros: This mascara makes your lashes look stellar. Honestly they look like you spent time applying false lashes but when someone asks you can say (without lying hehe) no these are my real lashes! At $35 it isn’t the cheapest mascara but I would say it’s pretty reasonable considering you get a mascara and the dual fiber brush.
Cons: The fibers in the sculpting brush might bother some people. It can get in your eyes while applying if your not careful. Other than that I have no other cons.
MAC Zoom Lash in Rich Black is one of the mascaras that always have in my makeup kit for thick full lashes. I typically use this one for an evening out when I want to build my lashes up to have intense color. I typically use a base mascara and then add Zoom on the top last since it is a wetter consistency it goes on great over a base coat.
Pros: It is only $17 so it’s a great price for a reputable brand product. It really makes eyes pop because the intense rich color. It tends to last for a long time in the tube and only starts to flake after about 10 hours.
Cons: It tends to clump if the brush gets full of product because the container is fatter and it doesn’t get wiped off as you pull off wand. The other thing is the fact that it is a little more wet than your average mascara so I would suggest using as a top coat.
Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Mascara in Black has a larger and thicker wand to help apply mascara from corner to corner and gets good coverage on all lashes. I like all my mascaras in black and this one delivers a full intensity to give your lashes a plump thick look. When I need a waterproof mascara this one still looks glamorous but I know it’s going to stay put for hours. Sometimes I like to use it as a top coat if I want to finish with a waterproof.
Pros: It’s roughly $7 and serves up a beautiful, flawless look. I love that it’s waterproof and the consistency is perfect for full coverage of as a top coat.
Cons: The only con is I’ve used products from Rimmel that I have loved and wanted to re-purchase and they were discontinued. So with that being said I try not to get to attached to their products. For the price, I’m sure you could find a replacement fairly easily.
Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara in Deep Black is about $31 and with it’s iconic spherical brush and enhanced formula you are promised ultimate definition, length, and curl in an intense black shade. The modern brush design is there to help separate every lash and help get to the lashes that might be harder to reach.
Pro: Obviously the shape of the wand my favorite part of the mascara. The sphere shape and the size make it so easy to coat your lashes perfectly. The price is also not too bad considering the brand.
Con: Sometimes I have to build for the intensity I like if I want more of a full lash look. A lot of times I just use as a base then add another mascara as a top coat.
