I have received quite a few primer samples in subscription boxes over the past year. I really haven’t paid them much attention however. I didn’t really understand their purpose, so I always passed them along. That is until I attended a Twitter Chat with Birchbox and Smashbox awhile back.
If you are confused by the need for primer, let’s break down the benefits.
- It creates a smooth canvas for the rest of your makeup. You’ll use less and it will go on smoother.
- It can diminish the appearance of fine lines, pores and redness.
- Your makeup will last longer and have a polished appearance.
When Birchbox offered to send over a tube of Smashbox primer, I happily jumped at the opportunity. I can suffer from some redness and large pores, so I opted for the Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer—Adjust.
It’s a little frightening coming out of the tube! The green color combats redness and blotches. You apply your primer after moisturizer and before foundation. A pea-size amount is all that is needed.
This product blends so easily and leaves a powder finish. It doesn’t make your skin look green and I immediately noticed my pores seemingly disappearing.
I love this primer! And I’m not just saying that. My main problem areas are the T-zone, which is where I focused my application. I experienced less redness, diminished pores and the finish was amazing. I would also consider reapplying as needed throughout the day in light of the fact it blends so easily and doesn’t leave a green tint. I’ve always hated pressed powders so this could be a great alternative for me.
This is the Photo Finish line and comes in several formulas to cover any and all skin types and possible problems. In addition to this color-correcting primer, you will also find hydrating, blemish control, dark spot correcting and more. Smashbox also makes primers for eyelids.
In addition to purchasing the primers individually, there are also two Try It! Kits from Smashbox currently available in the Shop.
The Smashbox Primer will definitely be added to my makeup arsenal. I can’t wait to try the Blemish Control formula next time!
